The New Geography of Financial Technology

Preview

Whilst London has been the undisputed leader in European fintech, for the first time the city has taken the global number one spot, as London overtakes San Fransisco and New York for venture capital fintech investment.

To put this into figures London dominates the UK FinTech scene with the city accounting for 72% of all of UK's deals, and additionally the UK accounts for 70% of all European venture capital deals.

European fintech funding grew by 37% in the three year span from 2022 to 2025, whilst investment in the aforementioned USA cities declined by 13%. For comparison Europe received an equal funding of $40 Billion in relation to the major US hubs.

European investment groups led funding from $100 Million - $1 Billion, whilst US investment groups had a monopoly of 100% of funding over $1 Billion.

London has an incredible track record of fintech players including Monzo, Revolut and Wise. With Revolut completing a $3 Billion funding round in November 2025.

The growth is powered by a multitude of factors, but ultimately London has one of the strongest bases of financial customers. A major advantage that San Fransisco and Austin need to expand into their ecosystem.

That includes global banks, insurers, investment managers, exchanges, hedge funds, law firms and accounting firms. For context UK financial services generated approximately £223.6 billion in economic output in 2025, with roughly half generated in London.
